Ever since i was a little girl, I was fascinated by words, the most powerful force available to humanity, with its clear ability to lift, help, support, heal, hinder, hurt, harm, humiliate and humble, whether we choose to use it constructively or destructively. This exact power of words helped me escape the ugliness of the Lebanese civil war, which affected and influenced most of my generation. I grew up between Beirut and Yemen where I remember spending lonely days hiding under a tree, holding and reading a quote book to keep me company, when only opening its first few pages would fly me to another parallel world filled with the dreams of a little girl. Few lines or a simple thought shaped how i would think about things in life, and how I would perceive human relationships, love, passion, friendship, faithfulness, devotion, infidelity, etc… That was decades ago. I’m today in my early forties and still have a soft spot for it, discovering how joyful, therapeutic and satisfying it is to write one’s thoughts down, in a life… so full of ups and downs, hopes and despairs, successes and failures, laughs and tears, ugliness and beauty; and how pleasing it is to be able to turn one’s feelings into words, and be a voice for the voiceless. The act of writing, never failed to prove to me, time after time, poem after poem, that the little dreamy girl within, is still alive holding the same hopes and dreams she always had. I wish for my words and thoughts to leave a happy mark in everyone’s heart, to touch every reader’s life, and to fly you high to where the magic lies.
