A Lebanese Writer & PoetAbout Mariam Ayyash
Mariam Ayyash, a young Lebanese writer and poet hoping to leave a mark in peoples’ hearts. I’m the girl in the family that spends all her money on books. I have always believed that books, poetry or novels are a fair and truthful escape from reality. Books have always been my safe haven. If books helped Joseph Andrews overcome slavery in Henry Fielding’s novel, then they can achieve things the mind can’t imagine. Majoring in English Literature wasn’t my first choice, even though it has always been my dream. Following my family’s wish, I majored in nursing at first. But that wasn’t me, it wasn’t the thing I was passionate about, it wasn’t what I imagined myself doing for my entire life. Going against everyone, I switched majors. Saying this decision was life-changing is an understatement. I loved those characters in the classics. I loved how the splendid authors put their words into making something beautiful. Reading, for me, is something to make my mind wander away. Nikita Gill, Daniel Defoe, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Nicolas Sparks, Paula Hawkins and many others, have inspired me to pursue a writing career. Consequently, I became a person that writes anything on her mind. Virginia Woolf wrote a masterpiece from her suicide note, she turned her pain into something so wonderful, yet she did that so effortlessly. Maya Angelou turned something as awful as rape and racism into an autobiography that is taught worldwide (I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings). And that’s what I hope I can achieve. I was given the chance to publish my writings and I immediately seized the opportunity. These writings may not be the best, but I also believe that my words can and will resonate to you. Enjoy the book and happy reading.
